Make a splash at the Warby Trail Fest Lilo Derby!

The Warby Trail Fest has been a highlight on Victoria’s trail-running calendar for almost a decade – but this three-day festival isn’t just for runners. One of our favourite events, and a true crowd-pleaser, is the WTF Lilo Derby – a colourful, family-friendly spectacle that perfectly captures the fun-loving spirit of Warburton.

Held on the Monday of the March Labour Day weekend, the WTF Lilo Derby brings together a wonderfully eclectic mix of participants – from serious racers to families and friends just out for a laugh. At the start/finish line at Warburton Recreation Reserve, contestants line up dressed in all manner of bright costumes, clutching their inflatable rafts and tubes, helmets on, buzzing with excitement.

When the starting gun fires, they’re off – running or walking 1.5km to the launch point at Warburton Caravan Park. From this spot on the Birrarung/Yarra River, the real adventure begins.

Once in the water, it’s all about balance, persistence, and a bit of luck with the river conditions! Competitors float, paddle, and occasionally tumble their way down the beautiful waterway. Some entrants take it seriously, chasing a spot on the podium, while others simply soak up the laughter and chaos of it all.

If you’re in it to win it, Warburton Adventure Co. offers top-quality, river-ready rafts that glide smoothly and will get you across the finish line in record time. For the past four years in a row, all winners have done it on a sled. Hire one for just $25 per person, but book it quick – they sell out fast every year!
Our shallow-river sleds are practically built for this event, giving you the edge over those sagging supermarket inflatables.

The event is $45 until race day. Sign up for the event here and hire your river sled from us here.
