Team WAC Upskills with Swiftwater Training on the Snowy

WAC’s most popular adventures – by far – are river sledding and tubing down the Birrarung/Yarra River. Whether it’s a self-guided adventure (where we drop you at a secret entry point on the river and pick you up after your fun float), or one of our guided sessions where a qualified guide takes you for a 5 km adventure down the grade 1 and 2 rapids, our knowledgeable staff want you to have the best time.

That’s why all WAC’s staff have outdoor leadership qualifications as well as current first aid qualifications. We want your guided river adventures to be safe as well as super fun.

While knowing the river like the back of our hands has its benefits, there’s nothing like a challenge and an opportunity to up-skill in a new environment. With this in mind, team WAC headed off to the Snowy River to complete PRO-I Swiftwater Rescue training with industry-leader Swiftwater Safety Institute Australia.

It’s a couple of days that team WAC won’t forget for a long time – as well as dealing with 45°C days, we pushed our boundaries in the water and learnt how to make it even safer for you. As adventure guide Zec said: “It was absolutely awesome! Splashing about in grade 3 rapids and learning some really cool rope rescue systems with my amazing co-workers. Truly had a ball.”

WAC will continue to be committed to investing in professional, scenario-based training so our guides have the skills, confidence and judgement to manage everything from changing flows to complex rescues – or simply to give you a great line down the river!

Huge thanks to SSI for delivering high-quality, practical training that sharpens our systems and raises the bar for safety on moving water.
